We experience all of the Tranquility that The Desert Grace has to offer as apart of my 10 Day Namibian Road Trip.
As we approached the property entrance a gentleman greeted us and asked for our names. He cross-referenced his list and said, “They are waiting for you.” After a 20 min drive (9 km) from the Gondwana property entrance to the lodge entrance, there was indeed someone waiting with a cold welcome drink on a tray.
The property entrance serves many different Gondwana lodges: The Desert Grace, Desert Whisper, Namib Desert Lodge & Campsite, and others.
This is the point where we actually started to feel like we were on vacation.
Truly an Instagram worth hotel room if I’ve ever seen one. Pink accents everywhere!
When you walk in you a dressing area with a coffee pot and all of the fixings for morning coffee or tea neatly organized on the table just inside. Adjacent to the table, is the refrigerator with a complementary gin & tonic and some wardrobe space. Just beyond to wardrobe area, is a stunning bathroom with a door to your private patio, outdoor shower, and pool. There is also a safe near the entrance secured to a large cart.
As you move further into the room, you will find a very comfortable bed, sitting area, and large sliding windows to your private patio with a desert view!
The first night we opted for the Sunset Dune Drive, which left two hours after our arrival. This was a real treat and proper introduction to the Namibia Desert. We drove by different sites and learned about how the Desert Grace came to be. We saw Oryx running around and a jackal looking for dinner. The sunset was gorgeous, and the reason for all of the pink is the dunes have a pink glow at sunset.
The next day we decided to go on the all day Sossusvlei Excursion, and boy am I glad we did. This was also arrange through the lodge with the same guide, Salis. The other couple staying at the hotel joined us, and we all sat down for a wonderfully prepared lunch in Sossusvlei National Park. Check out my Sossusvlei post for more on Soussusvlei and the surrounding area!
The lodge was amazing! It helped that we almost had it to ourselves due to COVID. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced dinners. Dinner was about $30 USD per night, and drinks were about $4-7 USD. Even the pre-packed lunch and snacks were tasty.
For dinner we had a variety of food. Venison (maybe Springbok) was nice and vegetable sides were fresh. Pro tip: If you see venison, steak, or another meat listed ask what it is. It is probably not a beef steak.
Overall, the lodge was clean and the staff was very kind and helpful. We will definitely go back if we are ever in that part of the world.
